DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

Duties:
The Development Associate conducts research on prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations identified by Director of Development or Program Officer as potential sources of private or public funds to be used for program or general support. In addition, conducts ongoing research in business, philanthropy and related fields to identify potential donors and sources of donor information as well as grant opportunities.
Prepares a variety of reports including constituent giving history, grant funding opportunities, and monthly fundraising reports.  Enters data into donor database (Raiser’s Edge) on a timely basis for prospect tracking, donor acknowledgement, and donor stewardship.  Maintain donor and prospect files for use of other research and development staff. Assist in all marketing and communication initiatives which include producing quarterly newsletter, organizational brochure, annual report, and website management. Incumbent will also participate in organizing three main annual fundraisers; Annual Golf Tournament, Annual Awards Reception, and The Washington Post’s Send a Kid to Camp Campaign. 

Key Responsibilities:
•Process donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence.
•Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files.
•Create monthly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed.
•Continually update and correct database records.
•Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors.
•Assist with the organizing of three annual fundraisers.
•Coordinate productions and mailing of spring and year-end appeal letters.
•Prepare marketing and communications materials for distribution.
•Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings.
•Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.
•Assist in researching grant opportunities as well as assisting with drafting of grant proposals
•Maintain integrity of Raiser’s Edge donor database comprised of contributors, prospects, and stakeholders. 
•Compose communications from CEO and/or Board Trustee Chair to be used for event marketing and other agency publications
•Assist in the writing and designing of brochures, flyers and pamphlets for the organization
•Write website content and manage backend of website

Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in Windows 2000, Excel, Microsoft Word and database programs. An ability to organize and manage tracking systems and work on multiple tasks at the same time. Familiarity with budgets desired, but not required. 3-5 years experience working in development preferably at a nonprofit organization. Experience working with Raiser’s Edge donor database and ETapestry donor tracking software strongly desired. Bachelors’ Degree required with previous administrative and customer service work experience.
