Child Welfare
“Over 3 million reports of child abuse are made every year in the United States. And almost five children die everyday as a result of [such] abuse…many under the age of 4.” - childhelp.org
Far too many young people in the Greater Washington area live in homes plagued with abuse and neglect. At Family Matters of Greater Washington, we are dedicated to serving children in crisis. Our Child Welfare Unit offers traditional and therapeutic foster care to bring stability and safety to abused and neglected children.
At Family Matters, we provide holistic case management services to children in need. Social workers meet with the child and with his or her respective family to assess their social, educational, medical, and psychological healthcare needs; referrals to the appropriate service providers are then processed. The children and families from our program may receive individual, family, and group therapy, academic assessments, and social support.
Each child is placed in a loving and supportive foster home. The goal of the Child Welfare Program is to find a permanent placement for the child within fifteen months of entering the foster care system. If family reunification is not possible, Family Matters works to find a permanent adoptive home, independent living situation or guardianship for the child.
You can be a lifeline to children in need. Are you concerned about the safety and well-being of children in our community? Consider becoming a foster parent, volunteering or donating in support of the Child Welfare Unit.
Do you suspect a child you know is being abused or neglected? Call 202-671-SAFE (202-671-7233) or visit CFSA , 24 hours a day, seven days a week to report abuse or neglect.
