Mental Health
In 1943 Family Matters opened the Mental Health Unit to provide counseling services to residents of the greater Washington area needing assistance. Today we know that families are under more pressure than ever. Every day job insecurity, crime and violence threatens families in our community. That is why Family Matters remains committed to providing high-quality, low-cost mental health services to all residents of the Washington, D.C. area.
For nearly seventy years Family Matters has assisted children who have experienced neglect, abuse, the difficulty of multiple family separations and those who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. We give support to seniors suffering from loneliness and despair. Our innovative programs for spousal abusers and victims have helped hundreds of families over the last twenty years. We offer group and individual counseling to adults suffering from anxiety, depression and mental illness.
Individuals and families experiencing stress, trauma and mental illness find support, guidance and hope with our trained, licensed counselors.
The Mental Health Unit is proud to be a Core Service Agency and a Choice Provider for Mental Health Rehabilitation services through the D.C. Department of Mental Health.
Appointments are available between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays. To receive services, call Family Matters at 202-289-1510. The intake worker will forward the information to the Mental Health Unit and a social worker will contact you to set up an appointment.
