Family Matters of Greater Washington Announces Sale of Headquarters Building to Partnership of MRP Realty & UberOfficer, LLC

Family Matters To Relocate To Facilities Closer To Communities They Serve in the District

Washington, DC — Family Matters of Greater Washington today announced the sale of their 32,000 square foot headquarters building in downtown Washington, D.C. to a partnership of MRP Realty and Uber Offices LLC.  The seven-story building, located at 1509 16th Street, NW, was sold for $14.5 million or $453 per square foot.

Cresa brokered the sale, led by Doug Damron, formerly Senior Managing Director and now with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.  According to Damron: “This sale was a perfect fit for UberOffices and MRP.  Family Matters is able to relocate to a building that best suits their clients and continue to do the important work they have been doing for 133 years.”

The sale closed on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Family Matters will remain in the building until they formalize the lease on new office spaces, which will be located closer to their community-based programs in the District. Family Matters of Greater Washington will announce its new location in the coming months.

According to Family Matters President and CEO Tonya Jackson Smallwood: “Our goal with the relocation is to be closer to the communities we serve and to increase collaboration and work efficiency among our staff. We envision a new space that is modern, open, accessible and one that can enhance our ability to provide compassionate assistance to more than 20,000 children, families and seniors in need.”

The building, which Family Matters bought in 2006, was built in 1909 based on a design from the architectural firm of Averill, Hall & Adams. A contributing property to the Sixteenth Street Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, the Italianate-style building formerly served as a hotel, apartment building, headquarters to the Christian Service Corporation and National Association for the Education of Young Children, and home to many Congressman and Senators.

Zach Wade, Principal of MRP Realty noted: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to add this incredibly authentic building to our portfolio.  It is a tremendous fit for UberOffices coworking business in terms of providing creative, unique office space to individuals and small businesses in a dynamic Logan Circle location.  UberOffices continues to grow its DC presence and is truly excited to be part of the Logan Circle community.  In addition, MRP embraces a chance to work with an organization like Family Matters and help further their mission in any way possible; they are fantastic people doing important work.
