In addition to providing formal wear, Family Matters is also committed to providing teenagers with information that will benefit their health and wellbeing as they approach adulthood. With the HIV/AIDS infection rate in the District of Columbia at 2.5 percent, one of the highest in the nation, Family Matters is partnering with RealTalk DC (a division of the Whitman-Walker Health Clinic) to help teens better understand and protect themselves from the risk associated with HIV and AIDS. To support this goal, RealTalk DC will facilitate two 45 minute workshops, customized specifically for teenage girls and teenage boys. While not mandatory, we will provide incentives, including free professional hairstyling and grooming services to those teens who take part in the workshop.
