A Special Fundraising Fashion Show for Family Matters of Greater Washington

Join Family Matters of Greater Washington (FMGW) for a spectacular dinner and fashion show event, “Lights, Camera, Auction,” to be held on Thursday evening, November 15th at the MGM National Harbor’s Grand Ballroom.

This special fundraising fashion show will feature local celebrities and area officials, modeling the latest business attire — suits and professional apparel for both men and women — by various designers.  The event will also feature speakers as well as a silent auction offering up special merchandise, services, and other goodies donated by businesses from around the DC-Metro area.

Lights. Camera. Auction. is chaired by Maryland State Delegate Kris Valderrama (D-Prince George’s County), who also serves as one of FMGW’s board members. The evening’s festivities will be emceed by “Sunni in the City” radio host from WPGC-95.5FM and hosted by Family Matters’ Interim President & CEO Thomas L. Johnson.  The evening’s keynote speakers, who will make presentations on “supported employment,” are:

  • Jenny Stonemeier, Executive Director of APSE (Association of People Supporting Employment First)
  • Steven A. Reeder, M.Ed., CPRP, CRC, Assistant Director of Clinical Services Division (Adults and Older Adults), Behavioral Health Administration, Maryland Department of Health
  • Catherine Drake, M.Ed., CRC, Staff Specialist of Community Rehabilitation Programs, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services

In additon to Kris and Thomas who will also serve as guest models for the evening, other area VIPs taking to the runway are:  Chelsey Rodgers, Miss 2008 DC USA and Miss 2010 DC International and Yodit Gebreyes Endale, award-winning wedding and event planner, and founder of Favored by Yodit Events & Designs.

Other dignitaries expected to be in attendance will be Rep. Anthony G. Brown (D-MD-4th) and Del. Aisha Braveboy, Democratic Nominee for Prince George’s County State’s Attorney; and Angela Alsobrooks, Democratic Nominee for Prince George’s County Executive, and Rushern L. Baker III, Prince George’s County Executive, have also been invited to participate.

This event will announce the launching of a brand new program that assists local young men and women to be prepared for entry and sustainability into the workforce.
