Seniors Matter at Family Matters of Greater Washington

Family Matters provides services for seniors at several Ward 8 senior centers, with a grant and partial oversight from the D.C. Office on Aging. A hub of Ward 8 senior activities and professional services, these sites are a home away from home for the hundreds who visit daily for congregate meals, socialization with their peers, and the following services:
- Group exercise & health education
- Nutrition education
- Case management & counseling
- Art therapy (visual & movement)
- Sign language classes
- Assistance acquiring listening aids
- Group transportation to shopping centers & theaters
Ward 8 senior centers are open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

Ward 8 Home-Delivered Meals
Homebound Ward 8 seniors may be eligible for lunch delivery, seven days a week.
Grocery Plus
Family Matters provides essential food items to qualifying seniors, in conjunction with Capital Area Food Bank. Groceries are distributed monthly, at 4301 9th Street SE. Home delivery is available. Contact Outreach Coordinator Cherelle Fennel at (202) 562-6860 to apply.
Ward 8 Assessment & Case Management
Family Matters Social Workers provide case management to Ward 8 seniors in need of supportive services.
Arts for the Aging
Arts for the Aging is a six-week program that connects and engages the District of Columbia’s elderly population through music and art.
Seniors Night Out
Family Matters and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts have sponsored Seniors Night Out since 2013. Each month, 30 District seniors enjoy a complimentary dinner and performance at the Kennedy Center, as well as an opportunity to meet the artists.
